Summer Starts and Altamonte Springs

A few shots from a Florida trip.

I'm so excited to get the summer started!

matchbooks.

Matchbooks. You don't see them much anymore, but my family used to collect them.

They make a cool way to see some different places you've been...

Some different restaurants where you've eaten...

like The Treasure Ship in Panama City-- this famous landmark restaurant burnt down about two weeks ago.... sad to see it go.

And Hemingway's -- this place is still around.

Gino's - some of the best pizza in Chicago.

Spats, in Nashville, has been closed for years.

And last, but not least! A little matchbox wisdom never goes wrong.

Where I Hang My Hat

Packed up all my stuff today and relocated back home for the summer.

As everybody decamped in the dorm, I watched people ship out for LA, Vancouver, South Korea, South Carolina.... a whole slew of places.

It was super cool to see all our diverse dorm crew - each in a packing frenzy - with the same goal in mind:

Home.

Home Stretch

This year's classes are wrapping up around Emory.  Another school year under my belt, and I'm kinda sad to see it go.  And yet.  Before y'know it, it'll be fall and dad will I'll be lugging all my stuff back into the dorms.

Meantime. I love campus in the spring:

Up next? Finals week!

May the force be with us.

freeze frames.

Found an old school, film point-and-shoot camera in a drawer the other day.

And then found out that I love the grainy, rough and tumble feel of the photos.

Lately - I've been spending online time looking at shoes.

Lots of shoes.

Because, after all, it isn't like I have homework to do... or papers to write.

Er.

Anyway.

These are some of my fave finds. What can I say? High heels are favorite!

And! TOMS shoes are always comfy and cute, and they donate a pair of shoes for every pair you buy. What's not to love?

Furniture Redux

My family went a little DIY this week.  We took an old dresser that had been staking out a dark corner in the basement for the last, oh, half decade and repainted it for what is now its fourth reincarnation.

The before and after pic shows it: we swapped out our mirror for our TV. Now that's a good deal.

Here's the highlights:

Step 1: Dig out old dresser.

Step 2: Um, find that missing drawer.

Step 3: Clean drawers.

Step 4: Take a lunch break.

Step 5: Take the dog out for a walk.

Step 6: Paint drawers.

We repainted the white frame, and went with a warm beige color on the drawers to go with that white.

Step 7: Move in drawers and enjoy!

this week.

This week started with cake.

And watching a water polo tournament, for the first time.

(Chocolate cake.)

Then! Snow in Hot-lanta. Two inches. And classes canceled.

(Chocolate birthday cake.)

The best part? Old friends. New friends. All together for my one-year-older celebration. :)

And! Delicious, soft, chocolate birthday cake with supah-delicious, gooey, chocolate birthday icing.

It's been a good week.

2009 Wrapped Up

My Christmas decorations linger.

Maybe 'cause I like to savor the holidays.  The music, the weather, the ol' Christmas spirit... maybe I like to revel in it all just a bit longer.

Or maybe I'm just a bit lazy.

But. It's probably some kinda combination of both.

Some people are awesome. They get their decorations up early, and back down again within a reasonable amount of time.

Probably the same impressive people as update their blog regularly.

I am not one of those people.

(Yet.)

2009 wrapped up fast, and before I had time to say "Happy New Year!" ... well, y'know.

Fall semester highlights:

John Stossel spoke at Emory!

He’s a great speaker, and I scored a signed copy of one of his books. I'll read it... eventually.

Pres. Jimmy Carter came, too, to talk about creativity.

"You gotta have a dream... and confidence in yourself that you will succeed."

Pretty good advice!

One of the great things about college is all the cool lectures and guest speakers.  And whether or not we agree about different issues, it always awesome to see these famous people up close.

New semester, new year, new decade. Can't wait to see what happens.
